Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering 2022
We are delighted to be once again supporting the Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering in 2022, which is mostly online this year. It’s taking place from the 22nd to the 24th of April, with all of the online events happening on Saturday 23rd April. Click here for more details about what’s on over the festival weekend, which is celebrating the 140th anniversary of the Northumbrian Minstrelsy.
Phoenix Folk will be:
- running a special virtual ensemble project (with proceeds to the Gathering fundraising) in the weeks leading up to the Gathering weekend
- running a Northumbrian Minstrelsy tunes session on Zoom at 4pm on the Gathering Saturday
- hosting a singaroud on Zoom at 12.30pm on the Gathering Saturday
* NOW CLOSED FOR ENTRIES * Look out for the final video performance, which will be released on the Morpeth Gathering’s YouTube channel at 3.30pm on Saturday 23rd April 2022.
Take part in a video performance of a set of two tunes from the Northumbrian Minstrelsy. We provide a resource pack containing a choice of parts (tune, harmony, chords, bass) and you video yourself playing along with us and send us your recording. We will mix the audio from everyone’s recording into an arranged performance, and create a video collage which will be shown as part of the Gathering’s programme of online events.
It costs £5 per person to take part, which we will donate to the Gathering’s fundraising initiative.

Tunes Session (4pm - 5.30pm, Saturday 23rd April 2022)
Click here to join, or use the meeting ID: 884 4970 0580, passcode: 2005
Join us on Zoom for 90 minutes of tunes from the Northumbrian Minstrelsy. We’ll be leading tunes live on fiddle & guitar – play along with us at home, or join us and listen. Everyone joining in will be muted during the tunes (Zoom cannot process multiple audio feeds at once) which means you won’t hear each other, and we won’t hear you…but we’ll still all be playing music together, and your microphone can be un-muted in between tunes.
Sheet music and chords are available to download here: (Morpeth 2022) Online Sessions Tunebook – Minstrelsy Tunes
About us: We (Maurice Condie – guitar, Marina Dodgson – fiddle) have been running online tune sessions twice a week since April 2020, alongside other online projects and sessions. We hold a steady session every Monday evening, and a regular session every Thursday evening. Our sessions are relaxed and friendly, and anyone is welcome to just turn up and join in. Voluntary donations to our tip-jar can be made here
