Fiddle Tunes in Harmony

Traditional tunes arranged for solo, duet & ensemble performance

Fiddle Tunes in Harmony is a Phoenix Folk project where you can find original harmony arrangements of traditional folk fiddle tunes from Ireland, Scotland, England and further afield.

Whilst traditionally regarded as fiddle tunes, these harmony arrangements can be played on most tune instruments including mandolin, pipes, whistles and concertina. Our harmony collections are also available in mandolin tablature.

You can also commission a harmony arrangement for your ensemble. Please contact us for more details.

How to use our Arrangements

Typically, in our 3 part arrangements, the first harmony part is a countermelody of similar range and complexity as the tune. The second harmony is lower in pitch and a little easier to play. Either harmony part can be used to create a duet, or the three parts can be played together for trios and small folk ensembles.

Whether playing as a soloist or in a small ensemble, the first harmony part (countermelody) is also a tune variation and can be played as an alternative to the tune, as a way of adding interest to an arrangement.

For guitar players, the sheet music and playalong tracks can be used to learn how to accompany traditional fiddle tunes using DADGAD tuning.
