ONLINE An Evening With…Iain Gelston

Event Date:

October 22, 2023

Event Time:

7:00 pm

Event Location:

We are delighted to welcome some of the North East’s finest folk musicians into the studio for an online evening event. There will be time for guests to perform some solo material, and they will also lead a tunes session with us – so bring your instruments to join in from home! Sheet music will be available in advance via our website.
Iain Gelston is an award winning player of the Border or Half Long Pipes, having won all of the open competitions throughout Northumberland and the Lowland and Border Pipers’ Society in Glasgow. He has played at various festivals and venues throughout the UK, including the most recent at Edinburgh Fringe. Iain plays both solo and as part of the Tyneside based trio The Grand Assembly. Steeped in the traditional music of the North East of England and the Borders, Iain takes his inspiration from the long standing connection between Northern English, Scottish and Irish music, in particular the older forms and styles of the 18th century. The music he plays generally comes from collections such as that of William Dixon (1733) and William Vickers (1770), both local musicians and collectors of music.
The evening will be a mix of solo performance by Iain and session tunes to join in with. See here for more details and sheet music for the session.
